Common ZippyDB™ Redis Cache Questions

What is ZippyDB™?

ZippyDBis a Redis serverless platform allowing users to save time, resources and money on your Redis database needs. ZippyDB™ is built by industry veterans incorporating more than 40 combined years of experience to create a high performance, scalable, reliable and easy to use PaaS at a great cost. ZippyDB™ is a revolutionary solution for developers, IT, and managers looking to save big over Azure, Redis Labs and other overpriced complex Redis services.

What redundancy do you support?

During beta we currently support only a failover replica. We plan to add read-only replicas, multi-AZ replicas and cluster instances soon after launch.

What is the maximum number of operations/sec that an instance can support?

Current version is limited to ~500,000 1KB Read/Write Operations per Second. We will begin rolling out Redis Clusters and Read-Scaled Redis in the future to support higher workloads.

Are you available in Region X, or Cloud Y (AWS, Google, Alibab…)?

We are currently available in US East and West for Azure. If you have needs of > 50GB of Redis usage in a location we currently don’t serve, please contact us to see if we can expedite your location.

Do you offer your private/dedicated network connections to any data centers, public clouds or private locations?

Please contact us for details and pricing.

Do you offer Redis Enterprise/Redis-on-flash?

Not at this time.

Does ZippyDB™ Redis support Redis Cluster or Read Replicas?

Not in our initial version. It is in our roadmap to support both and automatically scale to clusters and read replicas as workloads require, upon selection by the user.

Is ZippyDB™ compatible with open source Redis?

Yes, ZippyDB™ is fully compatible with standard open source Redis.

What is your SLA?

ZippyDB™ uses redundancy of all components in order to provide a 100% SLA. View our full agreement >>

How does ZippyDB™'s consumption-based pricing work?

Each of your Redis instance’s CPU, Memory, Bandwidth and Disk usage is measured every second. At the end of the month we sum up your total usage of CPU, Memory, Disk and Bandwidth and bill you for the total usage based on current pricing. Our current pricing is always published, no need to go through a hour long sales pitch to get our pricing.

What happens when my account runs out of credit?

We will send notices when your account is about to run out of credit. If the account has a credit card on file, then any services will continue to operate. If the account has no credit card on file, then instances will be shutdown when the credit is exhausted.

How does invoicing work?

Your credit card on file will be billed every 30 days unless other arrangements are made through support. Invoices will be available through the portal and sent via Stripe.

Do you store my credit card info?

We use Stripe for PCI certified credit card storage and never transmit or store your credit card information directly.

What are the different limits?

Each account has a default set of limits listed below, limiting the total amount of memory and the per-instance memory that can be selected. When you setup a ZippyDB™ Redis instance, you select the maximum cache size for that instance. The total memory limits your account can provision and any existing instances size determine the size your instance can scale to. All limits can be increased through a support request.

What are the limits for an account or instance?

Default Limits;

Default Limits

Account: 2GB for all instances

Per-Instance: 1GB

Maximum Limits

Account: 200GB

Per-Instance: 100GB

How do limits work?

When creating an instance you configure the maximum amount of memory the instance can consume. First the memory is limited by the Per-Instance limit of your account, then it is limited if your account has other instances active.

You have a standard account and 2 instances, instance A configured for 500MB and instance B configured for 1GB.

You may add up to 500MB of instances to your account either as a single instance or multiple smaller instances.

How can I increase my account limits?

Please contact support to increase your limits. Note that limit increases require justification and may require minimum commitments.

Does ZippyDB™ Redis require Sentinel support/aware clients?

No, ZippyDB™ manages nodes and failovers directly.

How does ZippyDB™ ensure performance?

ZippyDB™ monitors its systems every second of every day to ensure that each Redis instance can perform at its peak. Our Proxy infrastructure also ensures that Redis node re-allocations and resizing do not impact client connections.

Is there a minimum fee for a Redis Instance?

All instances incur charges based on current fee schedule based on actual usage. With our initial credit, you won’t be charged or asked for a credit card until your credit runs out.

Do you offer technical support?

Included with every instance is 48 hour response support, see our pricing page for pricing on other support tiers. Note that we can help troubleshoot minor performance issues and help clients with setup and basic Redis usage. We can refer clients to Redis experts for advanced troubleshooting and consulting.
